GRU Working to Limit Disconnections
To help customers avoid service interruptions and reconnection fees, GRU has begun sending robocalls to customers who are in danger of having their utilities disconnected due to nonpayment.
GRU customers who are in danger of disconnection will receive a call from 352-393-1253 with the following message:
“This is a courtesy call from Gainesville Regional Utilities. Your GRU account is scheduled for disconnection. Please remit payment to maintain service and avoid additional fees. If payment has been made, please disregard this message.”
Part of GRU’s Customer First initiative, this service is designed to cut down on disconnections and help customers avoid reconnection fees. GRU customers receive a 14-day grace period after their bill’s due date. If the bill is not paid in full on the 14th day, the account is eligible for disconnection. GRU never disconnects utilities on Fridays or weekends.
In addition to the 14-day grace period, GRU offers hardship extensions and installment plans and works with outside agencies who lend financial support.
