Chapman's Pond & Nature Trails
Visit GRU's largest reclaimed water project
Location and Hours: Chapman's Pond & Nature Trails is located off Tower Road at 7100 SW 41 Place (east of the Veterans Memorial at Kanapaha Park —
see
map for directions). The park is always open to the public.
Chapman's Pond & Nature Trails is a passive recreation park developed for community use by GRU and includes ponds, streams, waterfalls and fountains. All of the park's beautiful water features are supplied by GRU's reclaimed water program.
Park Development & Amenities
In Phase 1, GRU created
- Ponds and surrounding trails by using the natural contours of the earth
- Trails for walking, jogging or biking
- Soccer fields
- Picnic and other recreational areas
In Phase 2, GRU joined with the local Audubon Society to
create one of the area's premiere wildlife observatories.
- Over 150 species of birds have frequented the area
- Located atop an inclined 10-foot wide earthen berm
- Overlooks a holding pond attractive to wildlife
- Includes an informational kiosk and bird checklist that identifies birds seen at Chapman's Pond throughout the course of a year
Community groups such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of
America have placed osprey nesting platforms, bat houses, informational kiosks, benches, and trail and plant markers within various areas of the park.
In Phase 3, GRU created
- Additional trails for walking, jogging or biking
- Picnic tables
- Additional informational kiosks
