Internet learning in the classroom has become an important part of the Alachua County school curriculum.
Under an agreement with the Alachua County School Board, GRU's telecommunications arm, GRUCom provides high-speed connectivity to 41 different elementary, middle school and special education centers in Alachua County, and GRUCom's 268 total miles of fiber-optic network throughout Gainesville and Alachua County. Additionally, we also participate in the Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund, commonly known as the E-Rate Program which makes discounts available to eligible schools and libraries for telecommunication services, Internet access, and internal connections. The program is intended to ensure that schools and libraries have access to affordable telecommunications and information services.
The links improve Internet access at a speed of five to ten times faster than the previous network.
GRUCom's fiber optic technology offers increased capacity, speed and reliability for data transmission.
