Biosolids Recycling

Keeping the waste out of the landfill

Wastewater treatment facilities reclaim safe, nutrient-rich organic material, called biosolids, from wastewater on a continual basis.

How we Recycle Biosolids
Instead of disposing of biosolids in landfills or burning them, we produce a low-cost fertilizer to supplement farming needs.

Our water reclamation facilities provide stabilized, nutrient-rich biosolids to a local farm. The farm applies the materials to fertilize and improve crop growth for corn, ryegrass and Bermuda hay.

The biosolids, which meet the Environmental Protection Agency's quality regulations, are applied to the fields in controlled, agronomic rates.

Benefits of Recycling Biosolids
Biosolids recycling is a sustainable process that preserves our natural resources and improves our environment by:

  • Enriching soil fertility
  • Converting a waste into a useful commodity
  • Reducing use of energy-intensive, commercial fertilizers
  • Improving growth and yield of crops and timber
  • Lowering costs
