Nona Jones was appointed Community Relations Director of Gainesville Regional Utilities in April 2008. Jones is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with GRU’s customer groups and various community organizations. She accomplishes this by being an active participant in a wide variety of community organizations, managing GRU’s charitable investment program, and working with Organizational Development to ensure a diverse workforce.
Nona acts as GRU’s official representative to the community and provides guidance to the executive team on how GRU may enhance service delivery to a very diverse consumer population. During her time with the company, she has led the development and implementation of GRU’s first Community Relations Strategy.
Prior to joining GRU, Nona managed Community Relations for Nationwide Insurance Florida Operations. In this role she was responsible for maintaining positive community relations between Nationwide and six major cities throughout the state of Florida, including Gainesville, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Miami, and Tallahassee. She invested more than $600,000 into the community during her tenure and garnered six major awards for the company.
Nona’s commitment to the community is demonstrated by her involvement in a number of professional organizations and community-based groups. She is Chairman of the East Gainesville Development Corporation Board of Directors and President of the PACE Center for Girls Board of Directors. She serves on the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council Board of Directors. She is a member of the Gainesville Women’s Forum and the Rotary Club of Gainesville.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and a Masters of Business Administration, both from the University of Florida. She is married to Timothy L. Jones and they are the proud parents of two active, fun Chihuahua’s, Honey Bun and Bandit.
