Federal Stimulus Funds Boost Home Improvement Program

$800K in free home improvements available

January 12, 2010

An infusion of $528,500 in federal energy-efficiency grants will allow GRU to more than double the number of low-income homeowners it assists with home-improvement upgrades this year.

This year the utility’s Low-income Energy Efficiency Program, known as LEEP, will be able to help 276 homeowners living in older, out-of-date homes make $800,000 in energy-efficient improvements.

“We are very excited to be able to help more customers this year,” said Theresa Spurling-Wood, who inspects the homes. “It’s amazing to work with the homeowners and see their reactions when all of the energy upgrades are completed. The entire experience is educational and uplifting for everyone involved.”

Thanks to these home improvements, LEEP program participants see significant long-term savings through a 13-percent energy reduction on average. Get a LEEP application and more information about the program.
