Beginning August 15, GRU customers subscribing to Gator.Net – GRU's fiber optic Internet service – will enjoy free access to ESPN sports programming, and on September 1 they will get Disney entertainment programming too. ESPN360.com and Disney Connection will provide customers access to live sporting events and exclusive content from ESPN, as well as a wide selection of videos, games and activities from Disney Channel.
GRUCom, the telecommunications division of GRU, has entered into a six-year agreement with ESPN and Disney to begin service in August 2009 and continuing through 2014. Nearly 30 Gator.Net communities in Gainesville can take advantage of GRUCom’s fiber-to-the-home technology, and more are being added everyday.
“Through this agreement, GRU is providing customers of Gator.Net fiber optic Internet service with an outstanding value,” said GRUCom Director Ted Kellermann.
Many SEC sports, including University of Florida football and basketball, will be carried on ESPN360.com with subscription to Gator.Net. ESPN360.com, ESPN’s live sports broadband network, offers a 24/7 online destination that delivers more than 3,500 live global sports events annually. ESPN360.com sports coverage includes football, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf and lacrosse, as well as top global soccer, cricket and rugby, along with many other sports.
Disney Connection is an advertising-free online destination offering TV episodes from the Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney, as well as movie clips, music videos and classic Disney cartoons.
GRUCom’s network includes more than 300 miles of fiber-optic cable reaching over 5,000 customers. GRUCom’s fiber-to-the-home service, the first in the state certified by the Fiber to the Home Council, transmits high-resolution data at the speed of light, offering customers the most advanced telecommunications network in the area.
