Public Power Week Honors Municipal Electric Providers

This is the 22nd Annual Celebration of this event

This week, October 5-11, GRU joins more than 2,000 public utilities across the nation in celebrating Public Power Week. The 22nd annual celebration is a time to recognize the contributions made by public power utilities.

GRU is proud to serve the Gainesville community and values our relationship with our customers. GRU has a Public Power Week display in our administration building lobby this week including cookies each day from 10 AM to 2 PM, as a thank-you to our customers.

Public power utilities, like GRU, operate differently than for-profit utilities in that our success is measured by the service we provide local customers, rather than by making profits for investors.

GRU is a significant part of the City of Gainesville, and contributed over $30 million last year to the City’s general fund, which supports police, fire/rescue, and many other vital City services.

Rarely do we stop and think about how much we have come to rely on electricity to power our homes and businesses. But we at GRU never stop thinking about keeping the lights on for you.

GRU also recognizes concerns over rising fuel prices and environmental impacts and is dedicated to constantly improving our services to provide affordable, reliable and environmentally responsible electricity.
