Lights on for National Night Out…make sure it's a CFL to save energy and money!

The first 200 residents will also receive an Energy and Water kit along with their CFLs.

Gainesville Regional Utilities will be teaming up with the University of Florida's Office of Sustainability to distribute 250 CFL porch lights at Duval Elementary as part of the Cedar Grove National Night Out (NNO) celebration on Tuesday, August 7 from 6 PM to 8 PM.

The first 200 Cedar Grove and Duval residents in attendance will also receive an Energy and Water Efficiency Kit including items such as a low-flow showerhead, swivel spray kitchen aerator, leak detecting tablets and draft stoppers.

GRU encourages the community to install energy efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) in their porch lighting fixtures as part of the NNO "lights on" front porch vigil.

"It's a great symbol of unity to turn on your porch light in support of neighborhood safety during National Night Out. If you're going to turn on your light, it might as well be a light that will use less energy and last longer. Installing a CFL will ensure that you're only changing out that bulb every five to seven years," said conservation analyst Amy Carpus.

NNO is a crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. To receive more information on how you can save energy, please contact GRU at (352) 393-1460.
