GRU offers competitive salaries and wide-ranging benefits
In addition to offering competitive salaries, GRU is committed to providing a comprehensive benefits package for our valued employees. Among the benefits we offer immediately after employment:
- Choice of medical insurance plans for you and your family. Rates are low and tax-free and the cost is shared by GRU
- Free life insurance equal to twice your annual salary (to a maximum of $50,000)
- Flexible paid time off plan that is available to you soon after you begin employment
- Paid time off in observance of most public holidays
- Additional event-based paid leave for bereavement, jury duty and military training (or active duty)
- GRU fully complies with all provisions of the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which provides up to 12 weeks of leave following the birth of
a child or a serious health condition affecting you or a qualifying family member
- Generous retirement plan in which your contributions are made with pre-tax
income. GRU also contributes to the plan on your behalf. The General Employees'
Pension Plan is a defined benefit (traditional) retirement plan in which you
are fully vested after 5 years of service. You will qualify for full retirement
benefits after 20 years of service, regardless of your age or early retirement
at age 55 with 15 years service (with a penalty)
- A 457 Deferred Compensation savings plan is also available for you to contribute
pre-tax income to supplement your retirement
- Tuition assistance is provided to non-probationary employees wishing to
continue their education. GRU will pay 100% of tuition to a maximum of
the equivalent of 18 hours annually at the in-state rate for a public educational
institution
- Interest-free loan program for non-probationary employees of up to $3,000
annually for a personal home computer as well as an additional $3,000 interest-free
loan for personal home fitness equipment. Payments are made through payroll
deduction and you may take up to 36 months to repay
- Our LifeQuest program provides on-site fully equipped wellness centers at
a number of convenient city locations. A free fitness assessment is provided
and required prior to using the centers. Nutritional counseling in also available
through the city's on-staff nutritionist. Participation in the LifeQuest ProClub
program also provides financial rewards to assist you in covering health care
costs
- Section 125 flexible benefits plan in which you may purchase additional
life insurance, short-term or long-term disability insurance, and vision or
dental insurance
- A Flexible Medical Spending (reimbursement) account is also available in
which you save with tax free dollars to cover your portion of medical insurance
co-payments, prescription drugs, eye glasses or dental care
- Dependent Care savings account to cover day care expenses for your children
or dependent family members. These deductions are also tax-free
- Free Employee Assistance Program that provides you and your family three
confidential psychological counseling sessions
