Partnering to help the local economy grow

GRU is proud to be a partner in Innovation Gainesville, a community-wide initiative created to transform our local economy and become a leader in emerging technological fields. Guiding this effort, the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Council for Economic Outreach are collaborating with leaders from business, academia, government and other supporting institutions who are committed to Gainesville’s transformation and are focused on leveraging our area’s critical resources.

Where cool things happen

Gainesville is the place where people are changing the world by making cool things happen. Every day, people in Gainesville, including GRU employees, are creating products that make the world a better place. Gainesville was named the Top Tech City in Florida and is a National Hub for Green and Health technologies. We are home to one of the nation’s leading research universities, the University of Florida, as well as one of the nation's premier healthcare systems. Our obsession with innovation is raising the standard of living, creating jobs in our community and changing the lives of people around the world.

A Gainesville Sun editorial mentioned an example of innovation at GRU:

"Sybac Solar, a German firm lured here by GRU's first-in-the-nation feed-in-tariff incentive program, announced it will develop a 6 MW solar farm on 62 acres of property near the Murphree water treatment plant."

Whether its cutting-edge solar programs like GRU's Solar FIT, creative energy solutions like the 4.2-megawatt combined heat and power South Energy Center serving the Shands at UF Cancer Hospital, or simply providing convenient payment methods for customers, GRU employees are proud to play a key role in Gainesville's "innovation nation."
