Creative use of solar power in our community

Florida sun
Gainesville is a very "green" community. Owned by the community, GRU shares your commitment. Solar power is one of the green initiatives best suited for the state of Florida.

Current solar projects include:

Photovoltaic Panels

In 1997, photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof at our System Control facility at 4322 NW 53rd Avenue. The panels provide 10 kilowatts of electric energy for equipment at this facility. The panels were made possible through grants and voluntary customer contributions.

Future plans are underway to install photovoltaic panels at the Gainesville/Alachua County Regional Airport during 2002. This project will provide another opportunity for renewable energy advocates to show their support for the application of solar energy.

Solar Water Heating Rebate Program

GRU has recently revised its solar water heating rebate program to save you more money. Active and passive systems are included in this program with rebates up to $450 depending on the type and capacity of system.
