What is a pipeline emergency?

  • A damaged pipeline
  • A pipeline fire or explosion
  • A natural disaster affecting the pipeline
  • A leaking pipeline

How do I know if there is a gas emergency?

  • Look for bubbling in standing water or discolored vegetation around the pipeline area. A pool of liquid on the ground; a dense white cloud or fog; a slight mist of ice; or unexplained frozen ground near the pipeline are also signs of a possible leak
  • Listen for any unusual noises like hissing or roaring sounds
  • Smell any strange or unusual odor the products will smell like rotten eggs
  • Notify 352-334-2550 immediately

What should I do in a gas emergency?
LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY.  Leave immediately on foot and maintain a safe distance. Warn others to stay away from the leak. Abandon any equipment being used in or near the area

NOTIFY GRU IMMEDIATELY. Call 352-334-2550 and give your name, the location and a description of the leak

What should I NOT do in a gas emergency?
DO NOT create any sparks that could ignite escaping gas
DO NOT start a car, light a match or cigarette
DO NOT attempt to stop the flow of gas
DO NOT use a cell phone while near escaping gas
DO NOT go into a leak or vapor cloud to turn off excavation equipment
