Use Florida-Friendly landscaping techniques to reduce the amount of water needed to keep your landscape beautiful and healthy
- Plan your landscaping
- Limit grass areas
- Use native plants
- Use drought tolerant plants
- Plant in spring and fall, when watering needs are less
- Smaller plants (even for large varieties) take less water to become established
- Group plants by their watering requirements
- Prepare the soil
- Don't over fertilize
- Keep a lawn height of 2½ to 3 inches
- Keep grass cutting and pruning tools sharp
- Leave grass clippings where they fall
- Mulch to retain moisture
