Refrigerator Buyback and Recycling
Get rid of that old, extra unit in your garage.
This rebate is to encourage the removal of older, less efficient secondary refrigerators and freezers that use more energy. New refrigerators, on average, use half the electricity of units made prior to 1987.
When a new refrigerator or freezer is purchased many of us relocate the older unit into unconditioned space (e.g. garage or utility room) and continue to use it. Placing these units in a hot, unconditioned space forces an already inefficient unit to run longer during warmer months. In addition, these units may have other energy-wasting problems, such as deteriorating seals, clogged coils or a malfunctioning cooling system.
