GRU's Rebate Program
High Efficiency Room Air Conditioner Rebate
This rebate is to encourage the replacement of inefficient room air conditioners with new high efficiency models, which use less energy and help lower your electric bills.
Room air conditioners use the same components as central air conditioners to remove heat from a home. Typically the unit rests in a window or wall with a section of the unit extending outside and part of it facing the inside of the home. Room air conditioners are typically used to cool one or two rooms.
How Unit Efficiency is Measured
The efficiency of room air conditioners is measured by the energy efficiency ratio (EER), which is the ratio of the cooling output (in BTUs) divided by the rated electrical input (in watts). The minimum EER for room air conditioners to be considered ENERGY STAR® is 10.7 for units of less than 20,000 BTU/hr.
