This rebate is to encourage energy efficient building construction practices in newly constructed Affordable Housing units. With heightened attention being paid to utility bills and the increased community concern over lower income residents, more Affordable Housing neighborhoods are being built to ENERGY STARŪ standards.
In order to encourage higher efficiency construction standards a rebate is offered for the successful certification of newly constructed ENERGY STARŪ single and multi-family Affordable Housing units.
ENERGY STARŪ construction incorporates elements such as increased insulation, tightly sealed building envelope and duct work, high efficiency air conditioners, high performance windows and appliances along with other considerations. A successful ENERGY STARŪ certification requires an independent verification of performance conducted by a Florida Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater. The HERS rater will conduct a Blower Door Test and A Duct System Air-tightness Test. A Blower Door Test is a test in which the conditioned space is depressurized to 50 PASCAL's in order to determine air tightness. A Duct System Air-tightness Test is a test that determines total duct leakage.
