Things you might not think about that can affect your bill

Your business can save money by monitoring your thermostat settings and using fans when possible. Here are some additional ways to lower your costs:

  • During the cooling season, every thermostat degree setting under 78 degrees represents approximately a four percent increase in the electric portion of your utility bill
  • By using fans (ceiling, box, oscillating) in occupied rooms, you may be able to set your thermostat a few degrees higher without compromising the comfort of customers and employees
  • If your HVAC system uses a heat pump, raise the thermostat setting in one to two degree increments, waiting 10-30 minutes between adjustments. This strategy prevents the activation of the backup auxiliary strip heat, a notoriously high energy consumer
