Lighting
How your business uses lighting can have a major affect on your bill
Lighting accounts for nearly one-third of the total energy demand by commercial spaces, both in terms of the lighting itself and the air conditioning necessary to remove heat caused by lighting. In many cases, four T12 lamps (34-40 watts each) can be replaced with two T10 lamps (42 watts each) to provide the same light output. The total fixture wattage is cut in half and the internal heat load of the lighting on the air conditioning may be significantly reduced. Below are some more lighting tips that will help your business save money:
- Consider replacing standard incandescent bulbs with long life compact fluorescents
- Compact fluorescent lamps have a rated life of 10,000 hours
- Use the lowest wattage lamp necessary to complete tasks safely
- Turn lights off in unoccupied rooms at all times
- Take advantage of natural daylight by strategically placing desks and work stations
