Before you sign a lease, follow this check list

First Step

Thermostat Setting	Set thermostat to 68˚ F in the winter and 78˚ F or higher in the summer.
Lighting	Turn off lights when you leave a room.
Computers	Turn off computer when not in use.
Dishwasher	Let dishes air dry by propping the door slightly after the final rinse cycle.
Ceiling Fan	Set your air conditioner higher and use ceiling fans to increase comfort level. Turn off fans in unoccupied rooms.

Second Step

Lighting	Install 14-watt compact fluorescent light bulbs in place of 60-watt incandescent bulbs. You can save up to $30 a year.
Central Air Conditioning Maintenance	Check filters every month and clean or replace if needed.  Conduct professional maintenance on a yearly basis to ensure proper efficiency. GRU has a Central Air Conditioner Maintenance rebate available.

Final Step

	Action
Solar Screens	Install solar screens on southerly to westerly-facing windows.
Water Heater	Wrap old electric water heaters without an energy use label with a water heater blanket.
Thermostat	Install a programmable thermostat.  Program it to turn off or adjust overnight and when not at home
