Kanapaha Botanical Gardens is the site of GRU's first water reuse project designed to demonstrate the safety and beauty of reclaimed water. Kanapaha is a 62-acre botanical garden near Gainesville that features plants, trees and a wildlife sanctuary.
GRU also partnered with the North Florida Botanical Society to design a reclaimed water garden at the Botanical Gardens that simulated a "spring to sink" Florida ecosystem. The purity of reclaimed water has caused the water garden to flourish, as it now is home to large predators such as alligators— a sign that the water garden ecosystem is vigorous.
