GRU Office Recycling Programs
As a community-owned utility, we are committed to environmental stewardship through our corporate recycling efforts
GRU participates in recycling programs to remove hazardous materials from
the environment and reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills. In conjunction
with the City of Gainesville's Mandatory Recycling Ordinance established
in 1997, GRU recycles corrugated cardboard and "white" office paper.
Other GRU recycling programs include:
- Mercury Technologies Lamp Recycling - Recycling discarded fluorescent/HID lamps, which helps keep mercury and other hazardous waste out of the environment
- Battery Recycling - Recycling discarded batteries to help keep mercury and other hazardous waste out of the environment
- Category 1 Batteries
- Lead acid and sealed lead acid
- Category 2 Batteries
- Alkaline, nickel-cadmium, zinc air, carbon zinc (non mercury), nickel metal hydride and lithium ion
- Category 3 Batteries
- Mercury oxide, button cells, silver oxide, mercury containing alkaline
- Category 4 Batteries - Lithium metal
- Commercial Metals Recycling Program - Recycling base metals such as overhead metal wires, cable and underground pipes
- Aluminum Cans - GRU employees recycle aluminum beverage cans at all facilities
- Small Business Waste Disposal Services - Properly dispose of the hazardous and regulated wastes generated by your small business through Alachua county disposal services.
