Boulware Springs History

  • 500 B.C. - Provided early native American cultures with crystal clear water
  • 1891 - Gainesville purchased the springs to provide water to residents
  • 1905 - Gainesville convinced the University of Florida to locate in Gainesville rather than Lake City with an offer of free water from the springs
  • 1980's - Designated as an American Water Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places
  • Today - The original pump house, springs and grounds have been restored by GRU for use as a public park and meeting facility
  • The springs discharge 300,000 gallons per day from the Floridan Aquifer
