If you are moving to Gainesville, welcome! We look forward to serving you
When we say we're "More than Energy," we really mean it. We're not
just an electric only company. We offer a full range of services for your
convenience:
- GRU serves the Gainesville urban area with electric, gas, water, wastewater
and telecommunications services. We also bill for refuse and stormwater
services on behalf of the City of Gainesville
Before You Get Started...
You will need to have the following information available before completing an application to Start Services.
Residential Start Services Checklist
- Address of location to start services
- Social Security Number
- Driver License and State (if applicable)
- Date to start services
- Bank account number
Business Start Services Checklist
- Address of location to start services
- Social Security Number
- Driver License and State (if applicable)
- Date to start services
- Bank account number
- Company name
- Federal Tax ID number (if applicable)
- Charter Officer name (if applicable)
- Standard Industrial Code (SIC)
- Organization name (if applicable)
- d/b/a name (if applicable)
Starting Service with a Meter
- If the meters are already in place at your new residence, please review the appropriate Fees and Credit Policy link below to begin the start service application.
You should fill in the application for service at least one
business day ahead of your anticipated move-in date. We'll take care
of everything from there. In most cases, you won't need to be home when
we start your service, but if you do need to be there,we will notify
you to schedule an appointment
Starting Service without a Meter
- If you are building a home and your meter has not been set, you will
need to contact GRU. New meter installation cannot be done on-line at
this time, so please call GRU at (352) 334-3434 at least 15 business days
before your anticipated move-in date. The advance notice is needed in
case an inspection is required by the City or County
Our Promise
- We know how important it is to have your GRU services available
on the day that they are scheduled. When you request to have your
services started and we set a date to activate those services, we
promise to meet that appointment
- If your services are not activated on the appointment date, and
it's our mistake, we'll credit your account $20
