Utility Academy

Academy offers training for potential employment

The Utility Academy has provided training for people interested in working for GRU since August 2001.

  • Free, twelve-week program held on Saturdays
  • Provides career advancement, educational and individual growth opportunities
  • Graduates enter into the eligible applicant pool for GRU employment
  • Teaches skills for certain entry-level GRU positions in Water/Wastewater, Energy Supply and Energy Delivery

  • Classroom instruction and demonstration
  • Self-study materials
  • Tutoring and coaching
  • Field demonstrations
  • Supervised hands-on field practice exercises
  • Continuous evaluation and feedback

Schedule

We have no Utility Academies scheduled for 2009. Please check back at the end of the year for the 2010 schedule.

Selection Process

The Utility Academy is open to any interested party. Because the number of applicants often exceeds the available spots, we select participants (35 maximum) using a lottery system. The number of candidates selected for the GRU Academy will be based on the anticipated number of positions available in the future.

Application Process

  • Complete GRU Utility Academy interest form
  • Complete training placement exercise
  • Participate in face-to-face interview
  • Lottery to assign order of participation
  • Background checks will be performed on all candidates prior to final selection
