Extended hours for student “Rush”

Quickly stop, start or move services online

With thousands of students heading toward our area over the next few weeks, GRU is working to make utility service requests as easy as possible for all new and returning customers. GRU is extending their hours to fill the more than 800 requests expected to come in every day during student “Rush” – the busiest time of year for the utility between July 23 and August 20.

The quickest way for customers to start, stop or move services is to visit www.gru.com. Requests can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Another option is to visit the GRU Administration Building at 301 SE 4 Avenue during extended hours. Through August 20, customer service windows are open Monday through Friday 8 AM – 6 PM. Customer service representatives will be available on Saturdays by phone only from 10 AM – 2 PM.

In addition, customers can place a local call to GRU customer service representatives by dialing (352) 334-3434 or toll free at 1-800-818-3436. Customers can also mail a written request to GRU that should include the exact address of the service request, contact information, copy of a photo ID, and the dates they wish the service to be installed, moved or disconnected. GRU can handle requests for electric, gas, water, wastewater and Internet services quickly, assuring students that the services they need will be online within one or two business day. Customers can also inquire about “express” same-day service, which is an additional $40, when available.
